Biography

Senior Safety Analysis manager of NuScale Power, Inc.At the age of 14, Kent Welter began classes at Lane Community College, transferred to Oregon Institute of Technology for a degree in mechanical engineering, and then to Oregon State for nuclear engineering.

He joined the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission to help develop software for analyzing nuclear reactor safety.Kent recently returned to Corvallis to join NuScale Power, Inc. – a tech-transfer company that has developed the NuScale nuclear reactor – a small nuclear power plant using new technologies developed at Oregon State. With technology approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, it is hopeful the compact power plants will come on line in 2012.
